EDWARD L. LIEBERMAN

 

Edward L. Lieberman was raised in Lake Success, Nassau County, where he attended Great Neck public schools.  Upon graduating Great Neck South High School in 1969 he entered Marietta College in Ohio.  He graduated Marietta College with a B.A. in Political Science and was elected to the National Leadership Society and National History Honorary Fraternity.   

Thereafter, Mr. Lieberman attended the Hofstra University School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.  Mr. Lieberman continued his formal legal education at New York University School of Law where he received a Master of Laws degree in Criminal Justice.

 In 1978, Mr. Lieberman was admitted to the New York Bar and received an appointment as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County.  During his tenure from 1978-1982, Mr. Lieberman prosecuted and tried multiple misdemeanor and felony criminal cases.  He became a senior trial attorney in the County Court and Special Investigations Bureaus and was chief of the Civil Rights Unit.

 In 1982, Edward Lieberman entered the private law firm of Librett, Friedland & Lieberman which today maintains offices in Garden City, Manhattan and East Hampton.  He regularly appears in the courts throughout Long Island and New York City specializing in the field of criminal defense litigation and vehicular law.  He has received recognition in his field as a lecturer at the Nassau County Bar Association.

 After becoming an active member in the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions in 2002, Mr. Lieberman received the club’s Lion Of The Year award.  He has served as a member of his club’s Board of Directors and has served as its president from 2003 to 2010.

 During his tenure as president, the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions has initiated several new fund–raising events including a scholarship dinner and golf outing.  Also, the club’s elementary school ROAR program, which promotes leadership and responsibility, was expanded locally and was introduced to the District during the tenure of District Governor Norm Alpren.  One of Sea Cliff’s local parks, which had been previously adopted as a club project, was completed under his leadership with the placement of walkways, a water fountain, plantings, benches and a permanent chess table.  The Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions has doubled its membership during the last seven years and has received numerous District achievement awards acknowledging its role in these activities, including both the Presidents Retention Campaign Award and the Membership Excellence Growth Award for 2008 - 2009.  During his years of leadership in the
Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions the club has significantly increased its fund–raising and charitable giving.  For his efforts, Mr. Lieberman has been recognized for his achievements to Lionism by State, County, Town and other local officials. 

In 2005, Mr. Lieberman was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from International President Ashok Mehta, and in 2007 became a Melvin Jones Fellow.  In 2008, Mr. Lieberman rose to the level of Zone Chair under District Governor Herbert Farrell. In 2009, Mr. Lieberman received the Membership Advancement Key Award, the Presidents Diamond Membership Growth Award from International President Albert Brandel, and was elected First Vice District Governor of District 20K-2 under District Governor John R. Diaz.  In 2010, Mr. Lieberman was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and the Presidential Leadership Medal from International President Eberhard J. Wirfs, as well as the New York State & Bermuda Foundation’s Robert J. Uplinger Award from the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions.  Mr. Lieberman was inducted as District Governor of District 20-K2, Nassau County, NY and Bermuda, at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Sydney, Australia in July 2010.

 In addition to his service to Lions, Mr. Lieberman from 2001 – 2009 was an active member of the Board of Directors of Life’s WORC, an agency devoted to the care and rehabilitation of special needs children and adults.  From 2002 – 2004, he served on the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Long Island. 

Edward Lieberman resides with his wife Kathie in Sea Cliff.  Kathie, an Honorary member of the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions, is the former director of her family-owned day camp, Robin Hood, located in Brookville.  Kathie’s family was instrumental in administering the District‘s Summer Diabetes Camp at Robin Hood for the last ten years.  They have two grown children, Mikele and Ari.  Mikele is an elementary school teacher employed by the New York City Public School system and presently teaches first grade at P.S. 29 in College Point, Queens.  Ari graduated from Hofstra University School of Law in May 2009, and now practices law in Manhattan.  Ari is also a member of the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions and has served as the club’s First and Second Vice President.  Ari has been responsible for introducing a new group of young adults to the membership of the Sea Cliff – Glen Head Lions. 

Lion Edward is proud of his service to Lionism and looks forward to advancing the visionary goals of Lions International with his “Liberty Through Service” theme.
