Greetings Fellow Lions:
The month of September has turned into October and with that the District now
enters the Fall season!
September saw our membership numbers staying strong with retention of
members and many clubs bringing in new members with Lionistic visions of
Service!
In September we also held our first Open District Meeting. I thank all of
those who were able to attend and anticipate more attendance and enthusiasm at
our next Open District Meeting on Monday, November 8th at Koenigs Restaurant in
Floral Park. Ist VDG Stephen Dean is expected to be in attendance so please show
him our support by joining us that evening. Please mark your calendars! The
price is $30 pp for dinner. Please send your reservation checks directly to
Cabinet Treasurer Rosemarie Marciano, 66 First Street, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
Also, this meeting will be our District's "Food Drive" so please bring
non-perishable canned foods so that we can help feed those in need.
September also saw the commencement of the Bowling League which continues to
provide a wonderful experience for those individuals who may not otherwise enjoy
this type of activity. Our District is fortunate to support such a wonderful
program. Congratulations to all of those Lions who volunteer their time and
financial support to this project!
In September, our District held the first fund-raiser for our "Lend an Ear"
program.
Congratulations to the Board, Chairman Jim Zabatta, the Valley Stream Lions for
initiating this program and for all of those Lions who have supported this
wonderful program which supplies hearing aids for those in need!
October represents a month for many club activities including the
Rockville Centre Lions "Duck
Race", the Merrick Lions' "Purple
Heart Pups", the Sea Cliff-Glen Head Lions annual
Fall Classic golf outing
and the Oyster Bay Lions' Oyster Fest!
There are also many other club activities and events which our District and
its members can support. Please refer to our District's website to review all
of these events. Also, if your club wishes to post an event or other news item
please contact our District's Webmaster!
We also want to announce a
special fundraiser for Lion Barbara Walsh's son which will be held on
Sunday, October 17th.
The month of October will also be the time for us to discuss membership
and especially the Orientation of new members and prospective Lions. Please mark
your calendar for Wednesday, October 20th at 6:30 pm at the Nassau County Bar
Association. There is no charge for this event and a light dinner will be
served. MERL member Janice Preisz will be chairing this event and PDG Anthony
Paradiso will be leading the discussion on membership and orientation. Please
mark your calendars and join us for an informative and enjoyable evening.
Finally, October will be the time for two other special events!
On Wednesday, October 27th, our District will be holding a
Halloween Costume Party! This
event will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 1000 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde
Park! The cost is $50pp which includes dancing, a full buffet dinner and an open
bar.
Prizes will be awarded and a lucky bucks raffle will be held. This event will be
a great opportunity to join your fellow Lions-and non Lions-for a fun filled
evening of "masked" enjoyment! Please make your reservations with CT Rosemarie.
