Stockings from Santa

This is a new project for us and a great way to give our Troops overseas some needed cheer.  We will be collecting any of the following suggested items at the September meeting for these stockings: beef jerky, sunflower seeds, caffeine gum, dried fruit, packaged tuna DVD movies, baby wipes, hygiene products, cookies, chap stick, sun glasses, hard candy, dark socks, Dr. Scholl shoe inserts-gel pads, hand held games, playing cards, word search books, snack foods, phone cards, Frisbees, etc.  Barbara Walsh has boxes of stockings hopefully we will be able to fill a lot of them. After they are filled we will then take them to an organization in Garden City to be mailed to the Troops.  Our deadline is the end of October. 

Sweepstakes Tickets

Again this year our Club will be selling sweepstakes tickets.  The tickets will be $10.00 each – there will be a drawing each month starting in September to June 2012 for a $100.00 prize each month – with a $500.00 prize to be drawn in June 2012. Susan Grenier will once again be our Chairman for this fundraiser.  We have decided to use the proceeds from the ticket sales to sponsor 2 dogs from the Guide Dog Foundation.  These dogs will either be trained as guide dogs for the blind and disabled or be VetDogs helping to assist our veterans to cope with physical or mental disabilities. 

Bus Trip

If anyone is interested in running a bus trip to either  Mohican Sun, Foxwoods or other venues, please call Michelle or Dolores to help you set it up.  In the past we have used Classic Coach.

Fundraisers

We have a lot of exciting fundraisers and service projects planned for the coming year.  More information and dates in the next newsletter.
