Subject: Media coverage of statue dedication event

Dear Executive Officers, International Directors and Board Appointees,

Yesterday was a very exciting day at Lions Clubs International
Headquarters.  Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a Lion of 55 years
and a past district governor, formally dedicated the "Gift of Sight"
statue at headquarters.  The statue is a gift from President Carter and
The Carter Center in recognition of Lions efforts in preventing
blindness worldwide and our SightFirst partnership program.  Nearly 40
representatives from our sight partner organizations took part in the
formal dedication ceremony that was led by President Al Brandel and
President Carter.

An announcement of the event is on our Web site at
http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/partners_2009.shtml

There was a great deal of media coverage in the Chicago area. Below are
a small sampling of these stories. There have also been a number of news
stories around the country.  We will also share this news with PIPs and
PIDs worldwide and post on our Web site.

In his remarks during the dedication ceremony, President Carter said
that without being a Lion, he would never have been governor or
president.
