Dear Club Officer,
On June 17, I attended a meeting at the White House to discuss ways that the U.S. Lions
clubs can engage more volunteers in community service this summer as part of the "United
We Serve" challenge.
Most Lions would agree that it's a good thing when the nation is reminded about the
importance of service. It can bring about more hands to serve unmet needs, more people
who are inspired to a lifetime of ongoing service -- and hopefully, even more people who
see joining a Lions club as a great way to serve their community year 'round.
My request to you is simple. If your club is planning a service project between now and
September 11, 2009, please consider posting your service event or your project's ongoing
volunteer needs on the
United We Serve web site. By listing your service events on this website, people who
are looking for ways to volunteer this summer can contact your club to find out more.
Examples of projects to post at serve.gov can include community clean up days, health
fairs and screenings, Lions Crew at Work projects, food collections, youth sporting or
youth service days - or really any Lions service activity you feel might benefit from a
few extra volunteer hands.
With millions of Americans expected to visit the serve.gov website in the coming months,
it would be great to show just how much the Lions
are already leading the way on the service front.
Yours in Service,
Al Brandel
International President
