Message from LCIF Chairman Al Brandel
Dear Executive Officers, International Directors and Board Appointees,
I am sure you were equally struck with emotion when you learned of the
earthquake in Chile that happened earlier today. Many of you know
firsthand how quickly the foundation acts after disaster. I have tried
to call and sent messages to our two Past International Directors who
live in Concepcion, but have not heard from them yet. LCIF staff and I
will continue to try to contact them, as well as the District Governors
and Council Chairperson of Multiple District T.
Maureen and I returned from Haiti yesterday, and were amazed with what
the Lions of Haiti are doing amidst the devastation. Quality of life is
improved on a daily basis for over 3,000 individuals living in the three
Lions tent cities. Being among these men, women and children in our
tent cities was humbling, and we were impressed with the way they have
already set up informal communities.
We also learned that a new club is forming in Haiti. The needs will be
great for many more years to come, and our fellow Lions are doing all
that they can to serve their community. We also had a chance to meet
with the United States Ambassador to Haiti, and had a productive meeting
about how we can partner together. Our experience in rebuilding after
other calamities has shown the importance of establishing partnerships.
A message regarding our work in Haiti will be sent in the upcoming days
in all languages to Lions worldwide, and you can continue to monitor
updates on the web site.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or the foundation staff; we will
keep you updated as we learn more about Chile.
Together We Serve,
Al Brandel
LCIF Chairman
