VISIONS VCB

Greetings Lions and Leos of district 20-K2,

The 2008 summer season at VISIONS VCB provided yet another successful fun-filled experience for 448 blind and visually impaired campers. Adults with special needs as well as blind children and their families thoroughly enjoyed their time at VCB. Summer programs such as swimming in the adapted pool, bingo, bowling, talent shows, Olympics and Lions Day to name a few were some of the campers’ favorite activities. We were thrilled this year to host 38 blind children, some with multiple disabilities, and their families. VCB also provided informational groups and support groups for parents and children’s programming for their sighted siblings.  To see a child who is blind and physically disabled float free of restraints in the VCB swimming pool, grinning with excitement, is an experience not to be forgotten. It is just these rewards that many parents and siblings enjoy for the first time at VCB.

On October 11th VCB hosted the fall Lions work day, and VCB would like to thank Franklin Square, Long Beach, Massapequa Park, North New Hyde Park, Plainview-, Bethpage, Rockville Center, and Stewart Manor Lions clubs for their financial support and effort during the first two quarter of the 2008-2009 Lionistic year. Our comprehensive Recreation and Rehabilitation program would not be possible without them. I hope many other clubs from the district can join them and support VCB programs that target the rehabilitative, recreational and social needs of each blind participant.

This past November weekend, VCB hosted 46 participants. VISIONS services are free to our participants, but the cost of running this program and maintaining the facility is great.  We need the financial support and the effort of Lions Clubs just like yours to help VISIONS give our participants unforgettable experiences.  To find out about how you or your club can become involved with VCB, please contact Khaled Musa, VCB Program Director/Lions Coordinator at (212) 625-1616 ext. 130, or by email kmusa@visionsvcb.org.

If your club doesn’t have a VCB committee or liaison please try to appoint someone. By appointing a VCB liaison, it is easier to communicate directly with that person and update your club on upcoming events and activities.  On behalf of VISIONS, thank you 20-K2 for your generosity and support.

If anyone is interested in lending a helping hand for the VCB’s upcoming January, February or March weekends, please contact Mr. Musa at 212-625-1616, Ext. 130. He looks forward to speaking about the great programs of VISIONS VCB at your next Zone or Cabinet Meeting. From the family of VCB we would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
